There’s no rule that sellers and their agents need to hire a professional photographer to take photos of the home. It’s a good idea, but not a rule. Here’s what happens when an amateur with a camera (or more likely a phone) dabbles in the photographic arts.
Gotta highlight the chickens.
The most intriguing bit about this photo is the fact that nowhere in the listing does it talk about a chicken coop. Yet, three of the twenty photos focus on chickens. It’s also fun how you can see a woman overseeing the photo-taking in the window reflection.
Might be a bit crooked.
It’s the combination of things in this photo that gets your attention. First off, bold choice deciding to take this picture at a rakish angle. Secondly, interesting decision to place a smiling man painting about two feet off the floor. Finally, pull it all together with the artfully placed throw.
We really don't see enough people in MLS photos.
It’s traditionally the case that real estate listings focus on…real estate. For this listing, the agent decided that showing what appears to be a garden party would be the key selling feature. Even better, this is the lead photo that shows up with the listing!
Well that's definitely a purple room.
While the sheer amount of purple in this bedroom is what draws your attention initially, it’s interesting to consider how this photograph was taken. It feels like the photographer was in the corner and raised their hands as high as possible to take this shot.
No need to crop this photo. Nope.
There are three photos of the outside of this townhouse and none of the inside. All three of the photos are taken in such a way that the porto-potty right outside the unit is clearly visible. The decision to not crop this photo might have something to do with why after 339 days, this listing was terminated.

This is the sole picture for this listing for an $800K house in Toronto. Tilt your head sideways and you’ll notice that not only did the listing agent upload a sideways photo, they took the photo on garbage day with a pile of junk out front.
